This book was a game changer for my career It re shaped how I approach nutrition exercise coaching with most of my clients I read the 2nd edition back in 2006 I read the 3rd edition in 2012. I have really enjoyed learning and using MI in my nursing practice I feel like I have a new attitude about how to communicate with patients from developing these skills Fortunately MI is being seen as a new tool for health care settings, not just in drug and alcohol rehab settings where it was originally developed But the downside is that agencies who are unfamiliar with it just expect staff to attend a one day training and take it all in and run with it That s not how you develop expertise, and even the authors feel the it can t developed that easily Practice, coaching and peer study groups all help
Great improvements from the 2nd edition A must read for anyone in the helping professions Wonderful strategies that work to connect with people and support human change. This book is fantastic I soaked in so much information, and I really think this will help me in my health coaching practice I checked it out from the library, but I intend to buy a copy to keep and re visit once my finances improve.
